Snow Storm Sam dominated the 5th race on Labor Day at the 151st Edition of the Fulton County Fair, Ohio, while 14-year-old Presidential Pride held on in the 6th event.

Harness racing fans of the pacing persuasion were well entertained by Snow Storm Sam and Presidential Pride, while trotting enthusiasts got a thrill from three-year-old Taco Chip in the second race of the day in Wauseon, Ohio and cheered the duel between Super Land, a two-year-old bay, and Market Call, a five-year-old, in the seventh race.

Snow Storm Sam Star of Wauseon, Ohio

Henry County, Ohio trainers and drivers named Sugg usually appear with their harness racing hopefuls at Wauseon's Fulton County Fair. Ivan L. Sugg of Deshler, Ohio and J Duke Sugg, a co-owner and the driver, respectively, of Snow Storm Sam put their bay gelding to the test, along with co-owner For The Record Stable of North Ridgeville, Ohio.

Sam traveled the normal mile for Standardbreds in 1:56.4, the fastest time recorded on the day. He bolted to the lead at the three-quarters pole after steadily pacing fourth early on, then charged down the lane in a faster and faster clip to the raucus applause of the modest grandstand crowd. The victory was the sensational gelding's fifteenth on the year from 21 starts.

Finishing second was Yankee Cruiser's son, Mr Bacciagalupe. King Taylor captured third.

Presidential Pride Holds On

Against four opponents, Presidential Pride, a Wauseon favorite owned by James D. Mulinix, warmed up on legs that defied the splendid stride he displayed as soon as the wing gates folded snugly up to the body of the lineup car. Pride bursted to the lead in a pace that had his fans screaming from the get-go.

By the three-quarters mark, Pride was striding like a well-oiled machine. In the lane, Mike And Jim of Milan, Michigan and Do It Doc's Way, from Indianapolis, Indiana gave game chase to the 14-year-old horse of the day. Presidential Pride swooped under the wire with a neck to spare over Mike And Jim and chalked up his fourth win from 19 starts this year.

Taco Chip Glides to Win

Naples, Florida and Archbold, Ohio owners entered Taco Chip in the day's first trot, with five rivals. None were the Chip's equal on this Labor Day. He grabbed the early lead and steadily increased his advantage on the oval, coming home in 2:03.1 with his second win in a row from 11 starts.

Blazen Pegasus of Twinsburg, Ohio picked up his chase in the lane to no avail as Taco Chip's early burst easily held up. PS I'm Dynamic, a Haviland and Defiance, Ohio, entry, finished third.

Super Land and Market Call Battle

The time of the seventh race was 2:04, a seemingly leisurely effort; however, the competition was fierce. Ottawa, Ohio's Super Land trotted the opening quarter in :30.2 and held a three-length lead over Market Call, a Cement City, Michigan entry.

Market Call pinned his ears and took dead aim at the leader, whom he caught at the three-quarters marker. The five-year-old bay gelding never looked back and crossed the finish line with his fifth win in seven tries in 2008 and fourth consecutive triumph.

Super Land was second and Hoosier Jazz, a five-year-old Toledo, Ohio trotter, placed third.
