Since 1985, Little Brown Jug harness racing day in Delaware, Ohio has included the induction of a Wall of Fame honoree.  Dr. J. Glen Brown is the 24th recipient.

Chosen by a national and international panel of harness racing advocates to share Wall of Fame induction with 23 others thus far, Dr. J. Glen Brown became a permanent part of harness racing's marquee pacing event, the Little Brown Jug, during the race's 63rd renewal this month.

This season's week of Little Brown Jug racing, held September 14-18 at the beautifully manicured Delaware, Ohio oval located at the Delaware County fairgrounds, included the induction of Dr. Brown as the 24th member of the event's Wall of Fame honorees. These persons are recognized for their generosity toward and dedication to the sport of harness racing.

Dr. Brown's Other Honors

The state of New York has also honored Dr. Brown, inducting him into that state's racing Hall of Fame at Goshen, New York.

As a native of Brampton, Ontario, Dr. Brown has been selected to the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame.

Dr. Brown Helped Establish Early Jug Winners

Dr. Brown achieved his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1957. Shortly after that, he was named manager and veterinarian of ABC Farms. That enterprize had been started by brothers Elgin and Ted Armstrong.

It became one of the leading farms of North America in Standardbred breeding under Dr. Brown's tutelage.

With Dr. Brown's knowledge backing their efforts, the Armstrong Brothers built an operation that produced four winners in pacing's premier events for three-year-old colts and geldings, the Jug, and for fillies, the Jugette Filly Pace.

In 1974, Armbro Omaha won the Jug, followed by Armbro Operative in 1996. The fillies Armbro Feather and Armbro Romance won the Jugette in 1987 and 1998, respectively.

Dr. Brown Also Owned A Jug Victor

Dr. Brown himself owned the 1981 Little Brown Jug titleist, Fan Hanover. The horse was one of ten Little Brown Jug winners that were produced from Hanover Shoe Farms progeny.

Hanover Shoe Farms had winners in the Jug in 1981 and 1983, as well as in three consecutive years, 1964 through 1966.
