2nd Annual Wauseon Races Report Shows Winning Progeny

Yankee Cruiser, Nobleland Sam, Towner's Big Guy, Chip Chip Hooray had sons in the winner's circle on Labor Day in Wauseon's Fulton County Fair harness racing events.

It's a business, a science, and sometimes a crap shoot -- breeding winners in the Standardbred ranks. There are links, however, that studied over time can produce success in choosing winners.

Nobleland Sam Bred Two of Eight Race Winners

It would be foolhardy, apparently, to study the harness racing program for Labor Day at the Wauseon races and skip over the obvious fact that Nobleland Sam is the sire of four of the day's pacing entrants in three different races on a card of eight.

Indeed, it would have been. Sam's sons won Race Three and Race Five. Another son went third in Race One. Only one son raced off the board.

Following the pedigrees is the first step to success in picking winners. Here's how the pedigrees looked September 1 at the Fulton County Fair harness races:

Look For Repeats In Breeding

It's easy to spot the repeat breeding, the grandsires and down-the-line pedigrees. That is the first clue to potential winners. Next, check the columns in the race program that give the racing records (previous finishes - firsts, seconds, thirds) and earnings-to-date totals for each horse.

Most Helpful Hint In A Pinch

When a novice can't decide, the best bet is to take a long look at any horse who has the name Hanover, or Cam corraled in its paddock.
