Western Hanover Sons Dominated Little Brown JugWell Said and If I Can Dream Won the Jug Elimination Rounds
Western Hanover topped 2008 as the year's leading money-earning pacing sire, and he's got a lock on 2009, as well. His boys Well Said and If I Can Dream won in the Jug.
In ten of the last eleven years, Western Hanover led the breeding season's money earnings by progeny. His two best three-year-old sons of 2009 battled head to head in the Little Brown Jug September 24 in Delaware, Ohio. North America Cup and Meadowlands Pace titleist Well Said charged from fourth place to the lead rounding the Jug's three-quarters marker to encounter If I Can Dream in the stretch. The two Western Hanover colts finished one-two in the Jug's final heat, with Well Said taking a length victory, after each had won his elimination heat earlier in the day. Well Said had blasted from the eight hole to storm to a three-length plus triumph in his elim, Race 15 on the day's card. If I Can Dream handled all challengers in Race 14, the afternoon's first Jug elim. Favored Well Said was given the No. 2 post for the final heat by trainer Steve Elliott, who looked to gain a little better hoofing for his entry away from the inner rail dampered considerably by steady afternoon drizzles. The Panderosa is a grandsire to Carnivore, who finished fourth in Race 15 to qualify for the Jug's final heat. Western Terror, sire of Straight Shooting, and Western Ideal, who sired 2009 Cane Pace champion Vintage Master, are also Western Hanover sons. Doubleshotascotch Western Hanover GrandsonWestern Hanover's grandson, Doubleshotascotch, was entered in the first Jug elimination heat, qualifying off his 1:51.4 victory in a Pennsylvania Sire Stakes (PASS) championship race. His trainer, Noel Daley, was impressed enough with the gelding's sixth win of the year, which was also his sixth career victory, to head for Delaware. "He's earned a trip out there," Daley told interviewers at the PASS. Doubleshotascotch gathered in a PASS winner's purse that boosted his lifetime earnings to $222,982. A son of Dragon Again-Pacific Sister K, he is driven by Jim Morrill Jr. Western Hanover's Sterling Sire RecordWhile a proven paternal sire of great pacers and successful siring sons, Western Hanover also influenced Standardbred female bloodlines by producing top broodmares. Sons and grandsons of Cam Fella and Artsplace, as well as others, have bloodlines leading directly to Western Hanover daughters. Shark Gesture and Rocknroll Hanover Also ChampionsSix-year-old pacer Shark Gesture is a Canadian Pacing Derby champion.
